Basement Revolution Films is an award-winning production company located in Spearfish, South Dakota. Founded in 2024 in a literal basement at Black Hills State University by colleagues Justin Bergh, Skott Chandler, and Allen Morris, Basement Revolution Films is dedicated to producing quality feature films and nonfiction programming.
Justin Bergh is an Assistant Professor of Multimedia Journalism at Black Hills State University. His research interests span documentary filmmaking, critical media studies, cultural studies, food studies, and the political economy of media. Bergh is an accomplished documentary filmmaker, most recently directing Chasing Tables (2025), which earned multiple international film festival selections and awards. His scholarly work includes articles in Journal of Folklore Research and Elder Mountain: A Journal of Ozark Studies, as well as contributions to The SAGE Encyclopedia of Food Issues. He is also a dedicated student media adviser, having launched award-winning publications such as Ponder and Flow. His work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the South Dakota Board of Regents Award for Academic Excellence and the College Media Association Honor Roll Adviser Award.
Skott Chandler is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker, currently serving as Associate Professor of Photography at Black Hills State University. Chandler’s creative work spans fine art photography, documentary filmmaking, and experimental visual media. His photography has been exhibited internationally, including selections at the London International Creative Competition, Tokyo International Foto Awards, and the South Dakota Governor’s Biennial Art Exhibition. He serves on the Boards of Directors for the Society for Photographic Education. He earned his MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design and a BFA in Studio Arts from Southern Utah University, where he was recognized as the Outstanding Graduate of Art & Design.
Allen Morris is a photographer, educator, and visual artist whose work investigates narrative, place, and materiality in contemporary photography. He is currently Assistant Professor of Photography at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota, where he teaches courses in analog and digital photography, alternative processes, photojournalism, and professional practices.
Morris earned his M.F.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a B.F.A. in Applied Visual Arts from Oregon State University. His academic career includes previous appointments at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and Hubei University of Technology in China.
An active exhibiting artist, Morris has participated in solo and group exhibitions across the United States and internationally, including the Salina Art Center (Kansas), PH21 Gallery (Barcelona), and LoosenArt Gallery (Rome). His work has appeared in publications such as Lenscratch, Tussle Art Magazine, and Fraction Magazine. He frequently presents lectures and workshops at conferences and institutions, including the Society for Photographic Education.
Morris has received numerous grants and awards, including the Puffin Artist Grant, South Dakota Arts Council Career Development Grant, and residencies at the Peninsula School of Art and Xanadu Island. Through his teaching and creative practice, he continues to shape conversations about photography’s evolving role in visual culture.
